Dyeing Tips

Prom shoes can be dyed by your local shoe repair shop or bridal salon. Many styles offered on this site come in factory-dyed colors. The colors the manufactures use are closely tailored to the bridal dress industry. Factory-dyed prom shoes are color fast and will not run or bleed if exposed to moisture, but they can not be re-dyed. If you can not find a local establishment to dye your prom, we welcome your call to arrange for custom dyeing. Dyeing  prom shoes is an art and not a science, and we are very good at what we do. When matched and dyed properly, you will have a beautiful accessory to your special occasion dress.

dyeing Dyeable shoes are not water resistant. The dye that is applied to your bridal, prom and wedding shoes is water soluble unless it is done by the manufacture. If your dyed items are exposed to water or heavy moisture the dye will bleed or stain. You can protect your dyeable, bridal, prom and wedding shoes with a water repellent spray. This will not render the dyeable, bridal, prom and wedding shoes water proof but will prevent most staining. If you choose to spray your shoes with water repellent spray they can not be re-dyed at a later date. Make sure the spray states that it will work on fabrics and not alter the color. We suggest not spraying the shoes unless it looks like rain the day of the event but have the spray on hand as insurance in case of inclement weather.

Black Shoe Dyed items will look different from indoor to outdoor (natural) lighting. The appearance of color change in different light settings is caused by the presence of ultra-violet light in the natural light spectrum and simply can not be avoided. Shoes dyed beige peach and taupe for example will take on a pinkish hue outside. Grey and blue tones can take on a purple tone outside. In fact the color will appear different between shaded and direct sun light. Inform your dyer of the lighting at your affair. We suggest having the shoes match the lighting where the service is being held when possible.

White platform shoes Dyeing Shoes is an art not a science. Due to the textural differences between the dyeable, bridal, prom, wedding shoes and the dress material being matched, the shoes can never be a perfect match. The only way to have a perfect match is to have the shoes made from the same material as the dress. The shoes if properly dyed will blend well with the dress ensemble, coming as close to the hue and depth of color as humanly possible. Customary charges for dyeing run between $8 and $20.
